Week 10 Lameness...

We didn't play this week cuz some people thought it would be a good idea to not go to the lake on a cooler, cloudy day instead of play kickball in beautiful kickball weather.

Does any of that make sense?

No. It doesn't.

Lame.

We'll be revisiting week 10, along with week 6 at some point down the line.

Week #9. Change your name to Saran, cuz it's a wrap.

Game 1
Walruses of Mass Disapproval- 16
Animal Kingdom- 14

Big win for the WMDs. The close score really doesn't tell the story of the game. The WMDs controlled the game from start to finish, with a good rally from the Animals to put themselves within reach. Unfortunately, time ran out in their comeback . It was a solid team effort from everyone on the WMDs, including the subs we picked up from the Whalers and Mexis. Trey and I were terrors on the base paths and Zach and Ryan came through with some heavy kicks. The Animals exhibited the heart that have made them a feared opponent in the league, but even copious amounts of Hennessy and Paully's purple shorts couldn't fuel them to victory.

Game 2
Call Me I$hmael- 14
1/8 Mexican- 24

Mexis keep rollin'. Except for the tourney, they haven't lost a game yet. They were missing the heart of their team, with Gena still out with a knee injury, but still managed to earn a 10 run victory with some help from a select few of the WMDs. The Whalers were definitely in the game, but a couple of key base running errors proved to be their demise, especially a key double play on a flyball/tag up The Rob-ot had no business running on. He should've had a heart-to-cog with the 3rd base coach after that decision...

With their win and the Whalers' loss, the WMDs move into second place and get back to .500. Check the standings after week 9. Oh, and we've still got week 6 to make up...

Week #8. Pick up Madness.

Another weak week for attendance for a couple of teams. The Mexis and Walruses stomped though again in the attendance department with a forfeit win for each.

We did manage to get a boss action BBQ going though, with a couple of fun, Pabst Blue Ribbon fueled pick up games.

Hey! Everyone should show up this week and have fun!

Sleeping in the dirt and smelling like a camp fire sucks. Playing kickball with yr friends in the sun rules.

One.

Week 7. Real Talk.

Sorry, for the late update, but I'm a busy man. Here we go.

Game 1:
Walruses of Mass Disapproval- 24
1/8 Mexican- 25

The WMDs put up a helluva fight, but once again the Mexis proved victorious, maintaining their perfect record. This one was a barn burner. The WMDs found themselves in the hole by 15 runs or so in the early going, but stormed their way back into the game by the 9th. Up by one in the bottom of the inning, with all of the pressure on the WMDefense, the Mexis managed to put together a quick 2 runs and take home the game. Also, a big thanks to a handful of Whalers who subbed in in our time of need.

Game 2:
Animal Kingdom- 32
Call Me I$hmael- 34

Another massive come back in this one... The Animals found themselves backed into a corner quickly, with an eerily similar 15 run deficit in the early innings, as the Whalers were pouring on the runs. Eventually though, the Animals found the heart (with the absence of their cap'n and spiritual leader, no less) that led them to victory in the 3AJDMCPAKBCIAGTFCY2K+10 and battled back into the game in the late innings. Their spirited rally was for naught however, as the Whalers held on for the victory, in large part due to the Rob-ot throwing himself all over the field diving for fly balls and one timely catch by Chase One-Shoe.

Here's the current standings...

Pre-Labor Day plans...

I know it's a ways off, but here's the revised game plan for, what was going to be, a Tron-game tournament held the weekend before Labor day weekend:

You voted for it, you got it- An East vs West Tron game. Crews will be assembled based on their affiliation, real or otherwise, with what side of the country they grew up on/hail from. Captains for the squads will be chosen. Teams will be selected. Night will fall. Balls will glow. Beers will be swilled. The West will once again fall under the iron fist of the East (wait... what?). I'll assume the cap'ncy of the East. If yr an east coaster and want to get on the squad, I'm having try outs. Get at me. We'll need a west coast cap'n. Anyone?

Prior to that adventure, there are several ladies that would like to play a Guys 'n' Dolls game, so we'll get that going that week as well. If you want to play on the Dolls team, talk to Gena or Katie. They're heading that up.

It'll all be goin' down on Aug. 29th.

Say word!

Week 6 (actually week 4) Bleakdown.

Week 6 has come and gone in absolutely disgraceful fashion. We decided to go back and make up week 4's Mother's day missed weekend and reschedule week 6's games, which will be made up at a later date.

Here's the scores, or lack there of...

Game 1- Call Me I$hmael vs Animal Kingdom

No one from Animal Kingdom bothered to show up except for Jim, Christian, and Collin's friend Bobbie. As such, Animal Kingdom forfeited the game and dropped to last place in the standings. Call Me I$hmael jumped up to 2nd place with the attendance induced victory due to...

Game 2- 1/8 Mexican vs Walruses of Mass Disapproval

Another forfeit! The WMD's only had 2 players show up (myself and Todd) and Todd and one of the subs got hurt in the 2nd inning, forcing another forfeit. With the loss, the WMDs drop to 3rd place in the standings and 1/8 Mexican remains undefeated.

The fallout from this weeks games could be biblical... There are already rumors of mass firings, defections, team name changes, teams disbanding, changing the game to frizbee baseball, dogs and cats living together, new professional soccer recruits, and the associated fire and brimstone that come along with biblical fallout.

Stay tuned... And for f---s sake, show up...

New poll up!

Answer it.

Maybe instead of doing a Tron-a-thon tournament, we do an East v. West tron game that weekend. We can also do the Girls v. Mans game before that... Whatever...

I'm open to suggestions...

Animal Kingdom takes the Crown at the 3AJDMCPAKBCI>FCY2K+10!

Once again, the Annual Joey Danger Memorial Celebrity Pro-Am Kickball Classic Invitational and Good Times Fun Celebration went off with out a hitch. Well, except for the torrential rains and frigid temps, but you can't have it all, all of the time. All in all, there was a great turn out and someone even had the foresight to bring a grill. It didn't function that well for some reason or another, but you have to appreciate the effort. Anyway, on to the good stuff...

Semi-Final 1 #1 seed 1/8 Mexican- 20
#4 seed Call Me I$hmael-10

In the first game, the Whalers, coming off of their first win of the season, were expecting to keep their momentum going against the Mexis. And through the first several innings, that's exactly what they did, jumping out to a 10-4 lead after 4. In the bottom of the 4th however, the Mexis came storming back, serving the Whalers up their 2nd 10 pc. McNugget in as many weeks. From there, the Mexis didn't look back and cruised into the finals.

Semi-Final 2 #2 seed Walruses of Mass Disapproval- 13
#3 seed Animal Kingdom- 18 Extra Innings!

Another hard fought game on both sides. The WMDs seem to have a knack for taking teams to extra frames, but couldn't pull this one out. A couple of defensive miscues and some untimely pop outs proved to be the nails in the coffin for the WMDs. The Animal Kingdom however, once again played their asses off with a solid team effort from all.

A big 5 run top of the inning in the extra frame from the Animals put the pressure on the WMDs to come up with some runs, but the Animals were able to shut it down and move on to the finals.

3rd Annual Joey Danger Memorial Celebrity Pro-Am Kickball Classic Invitational and Good Times Fun Celebration Y2K+10! Championship Game!
#1 seed 1/8 Mexican- 11
#3 seed Animal Kingdom- 18

The mighty Mexis have fallen! In spite of the aforementioned torrential rains and frigid temps, that only got worse as the game went on, The Animal Kingdom was able to keep their momentum going from the 1st round into the championships and sent the Mexis to their 1st ever defeat. Jumping out to a 10-1 lead after 2, the Animals put the pressure on early with contributions from everyone on the team. The Mexis fought back in the 3rd with 5 of their own, but just couldn't muster enough offense through the later innings to get them back into the game. A couple of runs here and there for the Animal Kingdom put the game out of reach and they cruised to W in the season's first tourney. Congrats, dudes and chicks.

Here's the bracket. I'll try to get some pics up later...

The Bracket is set!

Here it is... The official bracket of the 3rd Annual Joey Danger Memorial Celebrity Pro-Am Kickball Classic Invitational and Good Times Fun Celebrations Y2K+10!

1/8 Mexican claimed the 1st seed, starting the season at 4-0. From there, The Walruses of Mass Disapproval slid into the 2nd seed at 2-2. Animal Kingdom edged out Call Me I$hmael by 2 runs in the run differential department to claim the 3rd seed and a 1st rd match up with the WMDs.

Dig.

Week 5 Recap! (That's right. Week 5. What happened to Week 4? We'll see...)

Game 1- Animal Kingdom- 18
1/8 Mexican - 21
What a game! Someone finally put a bit of a scare into the Mexis! Animal Kingdom kept it close for most of the game and held the Mexis, relatively, in check. Nina, aka the aNinalator, was a cold blooded killer for the Animal Kingdom, getting on and around the bases at will. Zach and Gena, aka Jack and Zena, aka Wrecking Machine and Demolitionator (aka MVG, aka OMGena), were wrecking shop for the Mexis, keeping them in it, inspite of a rough offensive outing from their cap'n.

Coming into the 8th inning with the Mexis up 16-10, the Animals put up a huge 7 run inning to take the lead, but the Mexis answered with a 5 run inning of their own. The Animals couldn't answer in the 9th and the Mexis kept their win streak alive going into the tourney.

Game 2- The Walruses of Mass Disapproval- 24
Call Me I$hmael- 35

We knew this game was going to be a shoot out after the first inning. The WMD's came firing out the box, serving the Whalers a 10 pc. McNugget in the top of the inning. The Whalers fired right back in the bottom of the inning with a 10pc. of their own tying up the game.

From there, the Walruses offense slowed quite a bit, thanks to some defensive wizardry by Dean "the Machine", who basically shut the Walruses down by himself. Throw in a rough defensive 3rd and 4th inning for the WMDs, allowing the Whalers to put up 9 and 7 runs respectively, and the game was a wrap like Saran.

Ryan tried to pull the WMDs back into the game, blasting a couple of big home runs including a grand slam, but it wasn't enough in the long run and Call Me I$hmael picked up their first W of the season.

Check out the standings as we head into the tourney...

All Star Skills Competition Poll

Apparently, no one liked my selections for the likely All Star Skills Comp winner, as the winner of the Poll was a resounding "Other", with 80% of the vote. I guess we'll see who comes up with the prize in that contest 4th of July weekend.

To recap, the All Star Skills comp is going to be a 3-parter, with individual and overall prizes.

The first contest is going to be the "Long Ball" contest. This contest will consist simply of a ball, a foot, and a long-ass measuring tape. The rules are simple: longest ball wins.

The 2nd is going to be the "Target Shoot". This contest consists of targets placed on the ground around the field. The object is to get as many balls as possible into the targets and accumulate the most points. We'll probably roll with 10 balls or so per combatant.

The 3rd contest is the real deal. The culmination of all of the skills necessary to succeed in the IDKA. I need to think of a clever name for this one (and the others for that matter), but it's coming. It breaks down like this: vertical targets will be placed on the 1st and 3rd base lines. A contestant will attempt to kick the ball through one of the targets and run to 1st. At first they'll be given an open beer and a kickball. There will be a target between 1st and 2nd the contestant will need to hit with the ball. As the contestant rounds 2nd, he/she will have a ball thrown at s/him s/he'll need to dodge. From there the contestant must finish their beer and sprint their way home. Fastest time wins. Time penalties will be assessed for not accomplishing the tasks, including not finishing the beer before crossing home.

I'm going to talk to some of the sponsors and try to line up some prizes for this jazz... Or if yr a sponsor and would like to get yr name on one of these things, get at me...

New poll coming soon.

Breaking News! Mother's Day postpones kickball!

So, seeing as Sunday is Mother's Day, and people have locally residing mothers they'd like to, or are obligated to (depending on the particular mother/child relationship), spend time with; we'll be postponing this weeks games until a later date, TBD.

Anybody that will not be spending time with Mom and wants to play, roll up. We'll try to get a fun times game goin'...

Week 3 in the books!

Week 3 is wrapped up, and damn, it was a tough one. Turn out, for all 4 teams, was less than stellar, but a couple of key subs turned up and we got the games in regardless. Thanks Jeremy, Michelle, Greg and Rodney. So, let that be a lesson to you all who didn't get on to a team: Show up, yr services are needed and appreciated. On to the rad...

Game 1 Animal Kingdom- 28
Walruses of Mass Disapproval- 38

Animal Kingdom got off to a bang in this one scoring 7 runs in the 1st and shutting down the WMDs in the bottom of the inning. The Walruses proceeded to tusk (walruses don't have claws) their way back into it in the ensuing innings with some well placed kicks and tough D; The 10 run 6th inning being the difference maker. A couple more late inning rallies put the WMDs out of reach and they cruised like missiles to the W.

Game 2 1/8 Mexican- 34
Call Me I$hmael- 17

This one came down to the subs. 1/8 Mexican was missing several key players and picked up 3 subs just to get in the game, each of whom came up huge in the end. For the "Whalers", it was another tough loss in a tough start to the season. Struggling on both sides of the ball, they couldn't manage to put together any runs to cut into the lead that the Mexis built through the early innings. Collin and Zach both hit, arguably, the longest shots of the season for breezy home runs and played some tough D. With the victory, the Mexis remain undefeated going into a week 4 rematch with the revamped Walruses of Mass Disapproval. Shit will hit the proverbial fan. In the other game, Call Me I$hmael will be looking for their first win and some redemption against the Animal Kingdom.

Currently, the standings look like this...

iPhone-rs! Get this shit! It's only a $1...

Week 2 Round Up!

Game 1- Call Me I$hmael! vs Walruses of Mass Disapproval.

What a game! This one went a full 10 innings and was an absolute shoot out. 25-24 WMDs. It was a back and forth battle through most of the game but a couple of late inning rallies put the WMDs in the thick of it. A couple of key defensive plays and a 10th inning 2-run-scoring groundout proved to be the difference as the Walruses pulled out the W. That pushes I$hmael down 0-2 and desperately needing a win over 1/8 Mexican in this weeks matchup.

Game 2- 1/8 Mexican vs Animal Kingdom

From what I've heard, another back and forth game. A huge 9 run inning proved to be the difference for the Mexicans in a commanding 24-14 victory over the Animal Kingdom. Collin, for whatever reason, is calling this "another tainted victory", perhaps because he keeps losing players to injury. Will they be able field a team next week? Will the Animal Kingdom be able to rebound against the revitalized Walruses of Mass Disapproval? You won't know unless you show up and cheer on yr favorite team.

Here's a look and the standings and some action...

Look what showed up today...

Thanks PBR!

Week 1 Round-up! (finally...)

Well, I'm finally getting around to updating everyone on the week 1 happenings. Sorry busy week here at the IDKA. Anyway...

Game 1- The Walruses of Mass Disapproval vs 1/8 Mexican

Alright, let's be blunt; this was a massacre. 35-7? Yup. 1/8 Mexican, though undermanned by 2 players, obviously brought their A game to this one. Collin had his team firing on all cylinders; kicking, fielding, running, the whole 9. Chase, Zach, Collin, and Gena were going off all over the field.

The Walruses of Mass Disapproval, on the other hand, were struggling to find their rhythm in all aspects of the game. Everyone, from Joey Danger on down (wait, did I just refer to myself in the 3rd person?), was having their share of problems all afternoon. Pop up, dropped balls, base running errors; it was a shammockery... First week jitters? Hopefully. We'll see how the Walruses can rally back from the crushing defeat, this Sunday against Call Me I$hmael.

Game 2- Animal Kingdom vs Call Me I$hmael!

This game made up for all of the drama and excitement the first game lacked. Real talk? The Animal Kingdom showed up to play. Call me I$hmael! definitely left it all on the field, but could not answer a couple of late inning rallies from the spirited Animal Kingdom. Rob and Dean were diving for balls left and right; Rob damn near breaking his neck. The Animal Kingdom proved to be just a bit too much for the I$hmaels to handle in the long run however, as Paul stepped up with the big foot and Nina made some power moves around the bases. Let's see what happens on Sunday as the Animal Kingdom try to keep their momentum going against the 1/8 Mexican juggernaut.

Here are some photos!

The Rules...

International Danger Kickball Association

Rules and Regulations

Rule #1- NO BUNTING! EVER!

I- The Basics

A-Don’t be a bum. Bring beer and share. This is the founding principle of the IDKA.

B-A team must have at least 5 players to play the game or they forfeit. Stand-ins should be available.

C-Every team must field their own pitcher. (Exception: 5 on 5 games, with agreement between teams)

D-No fighting. Leave that at the bar.

E-No cheating. We’re all here to have fun.

F-10 Run Rule: If it’s the 1st – top of 9th inning you can only score 10 runs per inning.

G-Basic baseball rules apply; though, there are a few differences…

II- Kicking

A-If you kick the ball down either hill twice in the same at bat, it is an out.

B-Did we mention, NO BUNTING, EVER?

C-Ground rule doubles: If a fair ball, after it has been kicked, bounces out of play (ie. over the fence) it is a ground rule double. This includes, but is not limited to, bouncing off of a fielder, ground, or runner.

D-We cannot stress this enough: NO BUNTING! EVER! This is f---ng kickball, not a tickle fight.

E- With that in mind, a fucked up kick is not considered a bunt. It’s a fuck up. A soft kick at a fielder is also not a bunt. We know when yr bunting. You will be called back to kick like a man.

III- Running the Bases

A-1st base can be over run. 2nd and 3rd cannot.

B-Tie goes to the runner.

C-Infielders cannot block the base line.

D-If an infielder causes the runner to fall off the base or interferes with the runner, the runner will be safe.

E-No tripping the runner! Seriously…

F-Base runners may leave base only after the ball is kicked by the batter.

G-No lead offs.

H-No stealing bases.

I-On fly balls, the runner may “tag up” and leave the base once the ball touches the defender.

J-Runners may tag up on fly balls in foul territory.

K-Runners cannot advance on dropped fly ball attempts in foul territory.

L-Runners hit in the head/face are safe.

M-If a runner is hit by the ball when they are off base, even if it was the kicker that hit them, runner is out.

N-Runner will be given 2 bases on an over-throw that leaves the field of play (ie. over the fence).

O-On the third out, a runner can score if the third out is unforced and the run is completed before the out is made. Run’s do not count if a force play causes the third out. (ie if a runner is tagged for the third out, all runs coming in before the tag count, if a fielder touches a base for a forced third out, none of the runs count on that play even if they were before the out).

IV- Fielding

A-Fly balls caught in foul territory are outs.

B-Fly ball catches attempted in foul territory, and dropped in foul territory, are considered foul balls. Runners may not advance.

C- Fly ball catches attempted in fair territory, and dropped/bobbled into foul territory, are considered fair balls. Runners may advance.

D-On fly ball attempts, fielder must have control of the ball and the ball may not touch the ground for an out to be recorded.

E-The ball can bounce off of unlimited people, or body parts, and still be caught for an out, as long as it never touches the ground. This has been dubbed playing “volleyball”.

F-Outfielders may not come into the infield until the ball has been kicked.

G-If you throw the ball and it hits a runner that is off base, the runner is out.

H-The ball is dead and runners cannot advance a base when the ball is thrown back to pitcher. And no, hucking a ball from the outfield and yelling ‘Pitcher!’ does not count as the pitcher receiving the ball. Let’s be reasonable. A ball that is deliberately thrown to the pitcher from a reasonable distance will signal stoppage of play.

I-If yr pitcher is pitching inadequately, they may be asked to be replaced with someone more adequate. It is the captain’s charge to ensure their pitchers are up to the task.

V- Foul Balls

A-If a ball rolls over 1st or 3rd base or inside the foul lines when kicked, it is considered fair.

B-A ball that crosses the foul line before reaching 1st or 3rd base is considered foul.

C-A ball that lands in fair territory and rolls into foul territory after passing 1st or 3rd base is considered fair.
